This annual event has the sanction of the Australian Ballooning Federation and hence the creditability to provide a much needed international standard competition to assist Australia's top pilots to hone their skills or newer pilots to learn from their more experienced counterparts.
Prior to the Balloon Challenge, one of the largest ballooning festivals in Australia used to take place here.
The Canowindra Balloon Challenge began in 2010, once again bringing together a contingent of balloonist enthusiasts for a week long event of ballooning competitions and skill based activities.
The Canowindra Challenge coincides with food and wine events during April each year.
A spectacular event that the whole family will enjoy.
4pm - the fantastic family friendly Night Market starts off a perfect family night out.
A range of food, wine and craft showing off the best Canowindra has to offer.
Local chefs and wineries offering their produce.
Music by local and regional musicians.
Bring your own picnic if you want.
A glass free event - so NO BYOG.
7:15 - 8:00pm the 'Balloon Glow' gets underway.
A parade of balloonists on their trailers circle the grounds and with burners at full blast.
Balloonists and their crews display their skills and quickly inflate the balloons. The balloons are inflated but tethered in a semi circle to ensure the spectators get a great view.
When these huge brightly coloured balloons are inflated and lit from inside they light up the sky and put on a magnificent display unique to hot air balloons.
A small entry fee per family or per adult applies to the grounds for the Balloon Glow, Night Market and Rugby game.
Tickets will be available at the gate.
Note: Weather permitting the Balloon Glow will be held in the sports-ground on Saturday 18th.
