Over the glorious Easter weekend (2nd - 5th April 2010), more than 150 entrants in the 13th FE-FC Holden Nationals attended this years event at Orange NSW.
Some of these historic vehicles travelled from as far away as Perth, Tasmania, WA and Queensland to participate.
The FE-FC Holden Nationals are conducted every second year, the last being at Mt Gambier in SA in 2008 which coincided with the FC Holden 50th Anniversary.
This year was special and Orange and the old Gnoo Blas Circuit was selected for this magnificent event.
The weather was superb with pampered paintwork and polished chrome sparkling under the sun for all to see. Many folk took in the sights and enjoyed themselves at the displays and stalls set up and run by club members.
The Gnoo Blas circuit is a motor racing track around the grounds of Bloomfield Hospital and what is now known as Sir Jack Brabham Park. The nameGnoo Blascame from early survey maps. In Aboriginal it meant ''twin shoulders'' and referred to what is now known as Mount Canobolas. Opened in 1953 the circuit held the inaugural Australian Touring Car Championship event in 1960.
In 1961, the circuit was closed and this annual event was relocated to Bathurst where the current Bathurst 1000 is held.
All entries who participated over the weekend, were judged in three categories - Stock, Street and Modified
This years’ event, hosted by the FE-FC Holden Car Club of NSW, celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Touring Car racing in Australia.
The event included a picnic lunch at scenic Lake Canoblas on Good Friday and the ‘Show n Shine’ at Sir Jack Brabham Park on Saturday where judging of all the entries took place.
On Sunday morning the participants took part in a street display at Robertson Park as well as other activities in and around Orange. The entrants were treated to good ol’ country hospitality at the Orange Function Centre during the evenings.
The weekend activities concluded on Monday morning with marshalling of the cars at Turner’s Vineyard from where they went in convoy to Bathurst for a lap of the Mt Panorama Circuit.
The results of the judging and other information may be found on the 13th FE-FC Holden Nationals website where judging of all the entries took place.
