Fortunately, Lucknow on the highway just a few kilometers from Orange had a 'gold strike' shortly after the Ophir find and it continued on for over 100 years. When you visit you will still see remains of the
workings and find that Lucknow is much as it was in the beginning - a great journey back in time.
You can take a 'Walking Tour of Lucknow' and stroll around the historic village. With its rich heritage as a gold mining settlement dating back to the 1850s you can discover some of Australia's early history. On your walk you will see mounds of sand in the distance - these are left over from the gold extraction process.
